A disqualified driver has been fined £500 after driving his ill girlfriend to the hospital.
Adam Kenneth Dylan Devenney, aged 25, of Murrays Lake Drive, Santon, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualied.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Devenney was banned from driving in September 2017 for 18 months with an order to retake his test at the end of the ban, which he had not done.
Pain
He was seen by police driving on September 26 at 2am on the New Castletown Road.
When stopped by officers, he admitted he held a provisional licence but didn’t have a full licence and had not retaken his test.
Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said Devenney had not retaken his test due to a lack of funds.
’He drove because his girlfriend was in extreme pain and was taking her to the hospital,’ he said.
’Kidney issues have been diagnosed.
’There was a further incident but he called an ambulance so he has learned his lesson.’
Magistrates said that they were taking into account the exceptional circumstances which had led to Devenney driving.
Devenney was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
