A banned driver who was caught behind the wheel has been jailed for 14 weeks.

Jamie Christopher Hall, of Woodbourne Square, Douglas, admitted the offence, which took place on August 13, as well as driving with no insurance.

Hall, aged 28, had a third charge of taking a vehicle without consent against him withdrawn after the complainant did not wish to pursue the matter.

The court heard that Hall is currently on licence after being released early from a sentence for robbery.

Defence advocate Michael Mudge said: ’We would put forward that the disqualification period had expired, it was that he hadn’t taken his extended driving test.

’It was a stupid mistake to make and he shouldn’t have taken a chance.

’He has been on remand for the past two weeks.’

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced Hall to 14 weeks’ custody for driving while disqualified with no separate penalty for the no insurance offence.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months with an order to retake this test.
