A 60-year-old Douglas man has been fined £150 for being found drunk in a public place.

Jonathan Brian Kelly, of King Street, admitted the offence and was also banned from entering licensed premises and buying or being sold alcohol for six months.

Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court that police were called to Graih homeless shelter on Broadway on December 30 at 11.45pm.

Kelly was said to be refusing to leave the property and was unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, and smelling of alcohol.

He was persuaded by police to leave but said: ’I’ve got nowhere to go and no money.’

Kelly was arrested after police had concerns for his safety.

The court heard that he has a similar conviction in 2020.

Kelly represented himself in court and said that he wanted to apologise to all concerned for wasting their time.

Magistrates told him to pay £125 costs.
