A man who threatened to rape a doorman’s children has been convicted of assault.
He pleaded guilty to common assault and disorderly behaviour on licensed premises when he appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes on Thursday.
Taylor, aged 36, will be sentenced on February 21 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on December 21 at 6.35pm, police were called to Jaks after a report of Taylor fighting with door staff.
The door supervisor told police he was speaking to two men when Taylor grabbed him. Taylor loosened his grip but then clenched his fist and pushed the door man.
The man attempted to remove Taylor from the pub and he was said to have appeared to calm down. He sat down near the door but when he was told to leave Taylor grabbed the bouncer again, then fell on the ground.
He then grabbed the bouncer’s legs before being successfully taken outside and restrained on the ground.
Taylor’s anger continued as he shouted and swore at the door staff saying: ’I’m going to kill you. I’m going to bounce your head off the pavement.’
Taylor spat at the bouncer with the spittle landing on his thigh and continued his rant shouting: ’I’ll rape you and your kids and stab you.’
The struggle continued as Taylor lunged at the bouncer again and got him in a headlock as the pair were on the ground. Police arrived and Taylor was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
When interviewed, he told officers he had been drinking from midday and had consumed 15 to 20 drinks.
Taylor said he he had initially been trying to help a friend and find out what was going on as they were being ejected. He said he felt wrongly treated by the security staff but agreed his behaviour was disorderly.
Taylor claimed he could not remember spitting at the bouncer or putting him in a headlock, adding that he was ’not the kind of person to spit’.
He said he would not have made the comments which had been attributed to him but admitted he should have walked away.
CCTV later shown to Taylor confirmed the spitting.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said that the prosecution facts were accepted and asked for a probation report to be prepared.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered the report consider all options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Taylor reside at his home address, contact probation and not leave the island without court permission.
