A door engineer who scuffled with police at Bar Logo in Ramsey has been sentenced to a 12-month probation order.

Shane Joseph Byrne admitted offences of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and resisting arrest.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also banned Byrne from entering licensed premises and buying or being sold alcohol for four months.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police were called to Bar Logo on February 26 at 12.30am.

Byrne, who is 32 years old and lives in the Lezayre Estate, Ramsey, was on the periphery of an incident and said that he had been separating people during an incident.

However, Byrne then became irate and started to threaten a man, which resulted in him being warned by police.

While police were seeking witnesses in relation to the original incident, Byrne was said to have become in another scuffle outside a doorway.

Police took him by the arm but he was said to have started flailing about aggressively and swearing which resulted in him being arrested.

He was said to have been forcibly restrained on the ground for 20 minutes while additional officers arrived as he continued flailing his arms to avoid being handcuffed.

After being taken to custody Byrne calmed down and told police: ’I was aggravated and I did kick out. I need to learn how to behave.’

Byrne told probably that he had attempted to intervene to protect a friend after they were attacked.

The report recommended community service or a probation order as a suitable sentence.

Defence advocate David Clegg said that his client worked long hours as a door engineer dealing with motorised and automated doors and was also on call for any problems with the court building doors.

Mrs Hughes ordered Byrne to also pay £125 prosecution costs.
