Residents are urged to ’take extra care’ in dry weather after a disposable barbecue set off a gorse fire at Maughold Head.

Fire crews attended the scene on Sunday (April 21) where approximately 10x5m of gorse and headland were on flames.

Using a specialist 6x6 Pinzgauer appliance, due to difficulty in accessing the scene, crews were on site from 6.51 for just over an hour to dampen the area down.

The fire and rescue service has asked members of the public to take extra care due to the dry conditions, especially if anyone looks to use any type of barbecue or open fire.

’The ground is tinder dry, our colleagues in the UK have had to deal with two large moorland fire. Please keep safe,’ a spokesman said.
