This was the scene today (Friday) after a converted fishing boat sunk in Peel harbour.

Peel coastguard was called at about 10.30am to deal with the incident - and check for any oil leaks.

Michael MacDonald, Coastguard operations officer, said: ’The Marine Operations Centre noticed the vessel on CCTV and we were sent out to investigate and assess whether there was any environmental impact.’

After confirming no oil was leaking from the boat, a dinghy was launched to recover debris from the deck that had washed into the harbour.

Mr MacDonald said the Coastguard was still trying to trace the owner of the converted trawler.

He said it was too early to say whether the boat had been holed or whether it had simply been swamped after taking on too much rainwater without being pumped out.
