A 31-year-old man has admitted burgling a coffee shop in Castletown.

Leo Craig Dale, of Ballacannell Estate, Laxey, stole £140 in cash from the shop till after climbing in through an open window.

He will be sentenced on October 6 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told a court this week that Dale entered Coffee Craft at Manannan House in Market Square on August 8.

He got in through an open window at the side of building opposite the Union pub.

Dale prised open a cash till and took £140 from it.

CCTV footage from the Union pub viewed later showed two men walking past the shop at 12.34am. One of them was Dale.

At 1.15am Dale was then seen on Castletown Commissioners’ CCTV footage returning alone and climbing through the window.

He then emerged from the window and walked along Malew Street.

Dale was arrested at an address in Orry Place in Castletown where he was then living.

He was found to be carrying a multi-tool, which he said he used for plastering.

The court heard that he was convicted of a burglary in 2015.

Ms Cubbon said that the case was suitable to remain in summary court for sentencing.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil agreed, citing the facts that there had been no damage to the property and no pre-planning as reasons.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction and ordered that the probation report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with a condition that Dale contact probation.
