Port St Mary lifeboat crews had a busy Tynwald weekend with two call outs in two days.
The volunteer crews were called out by Belfast Coastguard on Saturday evening at 6.45pm following a report that a 28ft yacht was adrift at Pooil Vaaish.
Weather was clear at the time with a force three north westerly wind. Arriving on scene the two men on the yacht were observed to be safe and well and it was established that a rope had become wrapped around the steering tiller.
Two Port St Mary RNLI crew members boarded the yacht to assess the situation before working to free the rope from around the tiller. Once the rope had been freed the all-weather lifeboat crew established a tow and towed the yacht into Port St Mary harbour and put the boat onto a mooring.
Port St Mary RNLI Coxswain Mike Keggen said: ’This was the second call out for Port St Mary RNLI in just over 48 hours.
’As we continue to enjoy the good weather, we would remind everyone planning a trip to sea to always respect the water. Plan your trip and check your vessel and engine and ensure you have enough fuel.
’Always wear a life jacket, always carry a means of communication and always let someone ashore know when and where you are going and when you are expected back.’
That rescue followed an earlier one late on Thursday last week when Belfast Coastguard alerted them of a boat in trouble one mile south east of the Chicken Rock lighthouse.
