A 20-year-old man from Douglas has been sentenced to 40 hours community service for cannabis possession.
Liam David Skillicorn, of Lheannag Park, admitted having 1.9 grams of the drug, valued at £38.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how police saw Skillicorn driving a Volkswagen Golf on Marathon Road in Douglas on September 15.
He was spoken to after stopping at Shoprite and searched, when he told police that he had some cannabis hidden in his genital area.
After being arrested and taken to police headquarters police found 1.9 grams of the drug where he had told them it was.
During an interview Skillicorn admitted possessing the drug for personal use.
The court heard that Skillicorn is currently subject to a probation order and a 100-hour community service order imposed in July for breaching a licensing order and common assault.
He has so far completed seven and a half hours of that community service.
A probation report suggested that further community service hours would be an appropriate sentence.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said that this was a small amount of the drug for personal use and that Skillicorn used it for anxiety.
Mr Kermode said that Skillicorn had no income and had been doing his community service at the Hospice warehouse.
Magistrates ordered that the 40 hours for cannabis possession run consecutively to the 100 hours previously imposed.
