Police have stopped 220 vehicles during winter lights checks over the past few weeks.

Offices have handed out a total of 118 vehicle defect forms requiring work to be undertaken.

In addition, three drivers were booked for having sub-standard tyres.

Police said they will continue to look out for defective lights - and urged driver to ensure their cars are fit for the road.

A spokesman said: ’Again we would ask that you check your vehicles and tyres to make sure your vehicles and those you carry are safe on the roads.’

Last week, a driver was handed three penalty points and a £120 fine for driving without due care after failing to de-mist their windscreens which were so fogged there was zero visibility.
