A driver and passengers were lucky to escape with minor injuries after their car crashed off Marine Drive last night.

Emergency services were called at just before 11pm on Sunday after a car was reported to have come off the road and down the cliff near Pigeon Stream.

The three occupants managed to get out of the vehicle and they were led to safety by a firefighters' line rescue team.

Fortunately, after being checked over by paramedics, they were all found to have suffered only minor injuries.

Crews from the fire, police and coastguard services remained in attendance for about two hours to carry out investigations.

A spokesman for Douglas Coastguard said: ‘Fortunately this incident had a good outcome but the occupants have been lucky and it could have been much worse.’
