A 32-year-old man who drove into a police van has been fined £500 for careless driving.
Stephen Morrissey Slater, of Cedar Grove, Douglas, sent a postal admission to the offence and also had his licence endorsed with six points.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police stopped Slater while he was driving a Mercedes on December 18 at Derby Road in Douglas due to an issue with the rear bumper.
However, as officers approached the vehicle and attempted to open its door, Slater drove forward trying to get through a gap and hit the police van before driving off.
He contacted police later and attended police headquarters.
When interviewed Slater said he thought he had an issue with his insurance which had prompted him to drive off when he saw police.
He said that he had not realised he had hit the van until his wife had told him police were looking for him.
Magistrates also ordered him to pay £50 prosecution costs and gave him three months to pay.
