A scooter rider who rode past an off-duty police officer has been fined for not wearing a helmet and being uninsured and unlicensed.

Phillip Nyamande, aged 23, of The Level, Colby, was seen by the police officer as he overtook her on his Honda 125 moped on Main Road, Colby on October 29.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court how Nyamande was seen by the officer riding at 11.50am and then saw the moped parked outside Nyamande’s home address.

Police went to his house on November 6 and Nyamande admitted riding the bike without a helmet and that he had no licence or insurance.

He told police: ’I just thought it was a short distance,’ and said he had left the helmet with a friend.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard that he is already disqualified from driving for six months.

Magistrates fined him £250 and disqualified him for two months to run alongside his current ban.

He must also pay £50 prosecution costs.
