A chef who refused to leave a nightclub then ran away from police has been fined £1,100.
Callum Robert Dubost claimed that Bordello staff were discriminating against him due to his clothing.
In court he pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and escaping lawful custody.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police were called to the nightclub on Loch promenade at 1.30am on June 27.
Staff had reported Dubost refusing to leave but when officers arrived they persuaded him to walk to Walpole Avenue with them.
The 23-year-old told police that he was being discriminated against because of his clothing but officers explained to him that bouncers had the right to refuse entry.
Dubost, who lives at Tynwald Street, Douglas, then became angry, swearing and refusing to leave the area.
Despite continued attempts by officers to persuade him to go, Dubost continued to swear and refuse to leave so he was subsequently arrested.
At first he offered his wrists to police to be handcuffed but then suddenly ran off towards Victoria Street with police giving chase.
An officer grabbed him by the jumper and the both fell to the ground but Dubost then got up and ran away again.
Police could not find him but he later went to police headquarters.
The court heard that he has previous convictions for assaulting a police officer and assault with intent to resist arrest.
Dubost opted to represent himself in court, declining the use of a duty advocate.
He said that he did not agree with all of the prosecution facts and told the court: ’I did run away. I have a fear of the police, the community mental health would back me up. I did swear, but I work in a kitchen, it’s part of my vocabulary.’
Magistrates fined Dubost £600 for escaping lawful custody and £500 for threatening behaviour.
Magistrates chair Julian Ashcroft told Dubost: ’If you’re in the process of being detained by police, whether you like them or not, you should stay put.’
He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs and will pay all amounts at a rate of £75 per week.
