Peel Coastguard has provided more details on the rescue by itself and the RNLI of young people from a beach in the west of the island.
The team were paged at 10.09pm to conduct a medivac of an heavily intoxicated youth from the old baths beach.
A coastguard spokesman said: ’On arrival the youth was located and assessed. A second youth was identified as needing assistance due to alcohol.
’Peel RNLI were tasked to extract the youths due to their condition and the rising high tide which was predicted to be higher than normal. Peel team cleared the beach of around 50 youths and picked up their rubbish.
’During the extraction of the first youth the second was becoming more agitated and aggressive, the decision was made to extract carefully via a tricky cliff path. Both youths were handed over to waiting ambulances and police.
’We would like to give credit to the two friends who called 999 to ask for help and assisted with information.
’Parents must be aware of where and what their children are up to as they could have been trapped by the tide whilst intoxicated.’
