The call-out came at just after 3.30pm yesterday (Monday) following a report of a dog having gone over the cliff.
But on arrival, it soon became apparent that the incident involved two dogs and one of the owners who had gone to rescue their pet.
Due to the remote location, all equipment had to be carried by hand to the top of the cliff.
The coastguard volunteers were able to establish contact with the casualty and a member of the rope rescue team descended the cliff to rescue one of the dogs followed by its owner.
However, the second dog proved more of a problem as it kept running away.
Fortunately, another of the owners called the dog to try to calm it. The rescue team was then able to get it back on its lead.
Once it was confirmed that nobody else was over the cliff, the coastguard could stand down.
A spokesman said: ’It was a successful outcome with all recovered and no apparent injuries.
’As all training is uniform to the whole island it meant that both teams were able to work together as one.’
