A burglar who climbed through a coffee shop window and took £140 from the till has been sentenced to community service and probation.
Leo Craig Dale was ordered to pay back the cash as well as £260 in compensation for damage to the window and till.
The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to burglary theft and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
We previously reported how Dale entered Coffee Craft at Manannan House in Castletown on August 8.
He got in through an open window at the side of building opposite the Union pub.
Dale prised open a cash till and took the £140 cash from it.
CCTV footage from the Union pub viewed later showed two men walking past the shop at 12.34am. One of them was Dale.
At 1.15am Dale was then seen on Castletown Commissioners CCTV footage returning alone and climbing through the window.
He then emerged from the window and walked along Malew Street.
Dale, who lives in the Ballacannell Estate in Lonan, was arrested at an address in Orry Place in Castletown where he was then residing.
He was found to be carrying a multi-tool which he said he used for plastering.
The court heard that he was convicted of a burglary in 2012 and 2015.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that the offence was ’opportunistic’ and committed while Dale was intoxicated. A letter from Dale’s partner was handed in asking for leniency.
A probation report recommended community service, a suspended sentence supervision order, or a combination order as an appropriate sentence.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced Dale to an 18-month probation order and 100 hours community service.
He will pay the compensation and costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
