The Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team have announced that ’young persons came forward’ to speak about a fire in Colby.

The blaze on Thursday last week caused extensive damage to a derilect building near Ballacriy Park, which firefighters fought to control but described it as being ’fully developed on arrival’.

A statement was posted on the police Facebook page this morning (Thursday), saying they are currently discussing the barn blaze that occurred around 7pm last week with the youngsters and their parents.

They said: ’In these cases we work with the youth justice team on a suitable resolution and the emphasis is always about keeping young people on the right track.’

The social media post also stated: ’At this time of year it is an appropriate time to remind all about the dangers caused by fire. A fire can have devastating consequences. In this case we saw a lot of damage caused but fires can very quickly take a life or cause severe, life changing, injuries.’
