A Jurby man has been convicted of three counts of benefit fraud totalling £1,489.91.

Stephen Thomas Simpson, of The Bretney, pleaded guilty to all the offences and will be sentenced on August 3, after the preparation of a probation report.

The court heard how 35-year-old Simpson began claiming Job Seekers Allowance in January 2016.

However, a witness confirmed that he had been living at her address and had been working for a security company.

Bank statements were handed in by Simpson which indicated that he had been receiving a salary, but no work had been declared.

A statement from the security company confirmed that Simpson had been working between March 2016 and September 2016, earning between £576 and £1,001 per month. He had received a total of £4,924 in wages.

Simpson was asked to attend interviews at Markwell House on September 29 and October 11 but failed to attend.

The court heard that £325 of the overpayment had been paid back so far.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted summary court jurisdiction and bail was granted.
