A takeaway delivery driver has been fined £400 after being caught with no insurance.

Artur Alan Mazurek, aged 22, of Crosby Terrace, Douglas, admitted the offence during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse on Thursday/last week.

Police carried out a vehicle check on his Vauxhall Astra on January 28.

They found it was registered to his employer, TD Car Centre, and was insured for his personal use.

However, the next day an officer spotted Mazurek parking the vehicle outside The Mandarin takeaway on Broadway - watching as he entered and then exited shortly afterwards.

Mazurek was stopped and admitted it was his first shift as a delivery driver and he didn’t have any additional insurance to cover this work.

In court his advocate, Kate Alexander, asked magistrates to take into account that he did have some cover adding: ’He was simply driving outside the parameters of his insurance policy.’

Magistrates endorsed his driving licence with four penalty points - they also ordered him to pay £50 in costs.
