A 55-year-old woman has been fined £150 after attempting to breach a licensing ban.
Lorraine Hicklin, formerly known as Wilkie, was banned from purchasing or being sold alcohol for two years in August 2015.
However, a summary court heard how, on April 29, Hicklin had entered Spar shop in Hailwood Avenue in Douglas and tried to buy a bottle of wine.
She was recognised by the shop assistant who refused to sell the wine to her.
Hicklin said: ’My ban is finished’, but then left the store. Police later spoke to her and she admitted trying to buy the wine and that she knew she was banned.
She told police: ’I’d been discharged from hospital and I’m not well.’
Defending Hicklin in court, advocate Louise Cooil said: ’It’s a sad situation. Since the previous breach Ms Hicklin has worked very hard, found work and wasn’t drinking.’
Ms Cooil said that both Hicklin’s father and husband had been diagnosed with cancer and she had suffered a small breakdown.
’She simply couldn’t cope any longer,’ said the advocate.
Hicklin was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
