Two Port Erin men who were found by police at an outdoor party have pleaded guilty to breaching the laws on being outside their place of residence.

The men were charged before the laws on being outside the home were relaxed on Friday.

David Dickinson, 24, of Fairy Hill, and Adam Luke Offinga, 18, of Edremony estate, were charged with being absent from their ordinary place of residence.

Offinga had previously been warned by officers on April 14.

Dickinson also pleaded guilty to possession of £2-worth of cannabis.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court police were called to reports of a party at the former swimming pool at Traie Meanagh at 8.40pm on April 21.

Officers found five people at the former pool and said there was ’clear evidence’ of the use of drugs and alcohol.

Dickinson told officers he had stashed a small amount of cannabis in a nearby drain.

Ms Cubbon said Dickinson had been walking when he bumped into friends who encouraged him to join them.

His advocate, David Clegg, asked Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith to delay sentencing by one week to allow for a probation report. As there was no application for bail, Dickinson was remanded in custody.

Advocate Ian Kermode, representing Offinga, called Kirsty Moorfoot, a social worker who has been working with the 18-year-old for two years, to explain his situation.

Mr Arrowsmith sentenced Offinga to 30 days’ custody, suspended for one year.

â?¢ The two cases were historic in Manx law. For the first time, defendants attended court via video link from police headquarters. Previously defendants had appeared either in person or via video link from the prison.
