A self-employed mechanic from Peel has been fined £800 after his car ended up on its roof in a crash.

Steven Keith Hamer, of Factory Lane, admitted careless driving as well as having a vehicle in a dangerous condition and also had his licence endorsed with eight points.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to Foxdale on November 21 at just after 7.40pm where a Subaru Impreza was on its roof.

Hamer, who is 43, was with the vehicle but was uninjured. Both front wheels were covered in mud, which Mr Swain said may have contributed to the accident.

Defence advocate Michael Mudge said his client had been suffering from pain and was on his way to see a chiropractor at the time of his crash.

’Unfortunately the only car available to him was this one and conditions were quite bad for driving,’ said the advocate.

’He accepts he was driving too fast on an unfamiliar road. To his credit he did call the police himself.’

Magistrates also ordered Hamer to pay £50 costs.
