Police want to trace an alleged hit-and-run driver following a collision in which a cyclist was knocked off their bike.

Owen Dudley, who won the Gran Fondo at Cyclefest two years ago, wasn’t seriously hurt, but was kept in hospital overnight following the incident on the Braaid Road at Sunday lunchtime.

He has thanked everyone who came to help, posting on his Facebook page: ’Massive thank you to everyone who was there at the side of the road, from members of the public, ambulance crew, police and A&E staff. All 10/10.

’Ashamed that the driver that could of caused life threatening injuries if it wasn’t for a quick reaction from myself couldn’t stop at the scene.

’Hopefully the driver puts their name forward.’

Owen was knocked from his bike while cycling northbound on the Braaid Road between St Marks and the Braaid roundabout at just after noon on Sunday.

The vehicle that hit the cyclist and subsequently failed to stop is believed to be a black coloured car that had indicators on the wing mirrors.

Police said: ’Thankfully the cyclist does not have any fractures or serious injuries.’

If you were the driver of the vehicle involved, or have any information that could help police identify the motorist, you are urged to contact Constable Rupert Mackenzie at Castletown police station on 822222.
