A 26-year-old motorist has been fined £500 for having a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
Matthew Stephen Evans admitted the offence as well as having an exhaust exceeding the noise limit.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes made no separate penalty for the second charge.
Evans’s licence was also endorsed with three penalty points.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how police stopped Evans while he was driving a Nissan 300ZX on Buck’s Road in Douglas on April 27.
After the vehicle was taken to the test centre several faults were found and the exhaust had been modified.
The court heard that Evans, of Barrule Road, Douglas, has no previous convictions.
Defence advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge said that her client was using the Nissan while his other vehicle was being worked on and was a project that he was working on.
Ms Dodge said that a volume test on the exhaust had initially put the level at under the legal limit of 100 decibels but Evans himself had asked for it to be checked again and this had resulted in a 102 reading.
Evans was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs, which he will pay along with the fine at a rate of £50 per month.
