A mother was left with bruising to her face, with one eye almost closed, after she was attacked by her daughter.

The victim told police that her daughter, Tara Maria McMillan, had punched her several times in the face during an unprovoked attack.

McMillan, of Slieau Whallian Park, in St John’s, appeared before magistrates last week where she admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

The 41-year-old will be sentenced on January 9 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to an address in Head Road in Douglas on November 5 at 12.45am.

McMillan answered the door and was said to have appeared drunk.

She was asked if anyone else was in the property and told police: ’She’s up there.’

Police found McMillan’s mother suffering from bruising to her face and with one of her eyes almost closed.

McMillan was arrested and said: ’I actually didn’t touch my mother so how am I getting arrested?’

She was then said to have said: ’I will kill my mother tomorrow.’

When interviewed, McMillan said her mother had invited her to come to the property and that they had been in good spirits.

But she said that her mother had called her a ’selfish bitch’ which prompted McMillan to hit her several times to the back of the neck.

She said she also slapped her once on the cheek and she had fallen to the floor but said she could not recall any comments she had made.

Advocate Kate Alexander asked for a probation report to be completed. Magistrates ordered that the report consider all options, including custody.

Bail was granted with conditions that McMillan does not enter Head Road nor contact her mother.
