High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told the court that a decision to charge a man with disorderly behaviour on licensed premises without viewing the relevant CCTV footage first was premature.

Charges of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and common assault against Daniel Brian Corlett, aged 34, of Mona Drive, Douglas, were dismissed when he appaeared in court this week.

The court heard that CCTV footage that captured the incident at the Courthouse bar, in Athol Street, Douglas, did not accord with what was alleged.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court that there were concerns about the actions of security staff.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that the CCTV footage of the incident bore no resemblance to the witness statements that had been made by the door staff.

And she said that she would be recommending that her client made a complaint.

Mrs Hughes said that there was no criticism of the Attorney General’s office but the police decision to charge without viewing the CCTV footage had been premature.

Ms Cooil will submit costs by December 3.
