A 29-year-old man has admitted breaching his bail by sending a marriage proposal to a woman he is accused of harassing.
Charles Tyrer is yet to enter a plea to the harassment charge but was bailed on July 6 with a condition not to contact the complainant.
However, on July 21 he was said to have sent her flowers with a note which said ’marry me’.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood said that the harassment allegations involve ’very concerning behaviour’.
It is alleged that Tyrer, who lives in Cobbold Place, Ballasalla, let himself into the woman’s house, rearranged furniture and decorated.
Ms Braidwood said that she would not oppose bail but urged magistrates to reiterate that the defendant was very lucky if his bail was allowed to continue.
Defence advocate David Reynolds said that his client was not somebody who was regularly before the court and had spent a night in custody.
Magistrates chair Julie Maddrell told Tyrer: ’On the face of it, it’s a romantic gesture but not to contact means not to contact. Bail conditions are to protect people. This is the last chance saloon. If you do it again you will be in custody a lot longer than a night.’
Bail continues with conditions not to contact the complainant, not to enter Glen Road in Colby, not to enter Station Road in Port Erin, to obey a curfew between 9pm and 6am, and not to leave the island without court consent.
