A man who has admitted possession of a class A drug has been remanded after breaching his bail conditions by leaving the island without court permission.

Karl Allen Cameron, aged 30, of Cronk y Berry, Douglas, was seen in Heysham on July 19. He is due to be sentenced for the drugs charge on August 13 and was bailed until then when he appeared in court on June 28.

Police were called to Heysham port after checks found Cameron was there. He was with another man and they had a large quantity of cash which they said they had won at a casino.

The money was seized by Lancashire Constabulary under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Cameron was arrested outside the Palace Hotel, Douglas, on July 25 at 1.10am. The court heard Cameron had failed to attend court three times in the last 12 months.

Advocate David Clegg said: ’Mr Cameron accepts the breach of bail. He says it was a genuine misunderstanding on his part as he had not realised he was not allowed to leave the Isle of Man.’

Cameron said he had receipts to prove his winnings.

’This was a friends trip to Liverpool,’ said Mr Clegg, ’They went via Heysham as they hadn’t been able to get a booking on the Liverpool boat. They returned to the island on Monday.’

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes remanded Cameron until sentencing on August 13.
