A 51-year-old man from Douglas has been sentenced to 50 hours’ community service for cannabis possession.
Ivan Muzik, of Marathon Drive, admitted having 25.7grams of the drug, valued by police at £771. The offence was committed on May 28.
A probation report recommended community service as an appropriate sentence and said that Muzik had completed a previous community service order during which he had ’worked diligently’ and had been a positive influence on younger people in the group.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that the cannabis found was of poor quality though that would probably not affect sentencing.
The advocate said that the first bag found contained chopped up leaves that Muzik had bought for £40 and not particularly potent, while a second bag contained leftovers from making joints of tobacco and cannabis.
’It is very encouraging to hear that Mr Muzik has re-engaged with Motiv8,’ said Mr Wood.
’His family had been having a terrible time and unfortunately he relapsed into cannabis use.’
Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks described the probation report as ’excellent’ and praised Muzik for being a positive influence on the younger people in his community service group.
