A 46-year-old Douglas man has appeared in court after admitting possessing indecent images of children.

Jonathan Heard, of Loch Promenade, has previously pleaded guilty to four counts of the offence but the case was adjourned while further devices owned by Heard were analysed and categorised using the Copine scale.

The scale is used to assess the severity of images using a rating of one to five, with five being the most severe.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court on Tuesday that so far one device had been found to contain 617 images at level one, 37 at level two, three at level three, 85 at level four, and two at level five.

A second device analysed contained 349 images at level one, eight at level two, 19 at level three, 94 at level four, and four at level five.

Twenty-six further devices belonging to Heard are currently being examined by police. Mr Swain said that it would be eight to 10 weeks before the number of images was confirmed.

The prosecutor said that the case would not be suitable for summary court and should be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing.

The case was adjourned until December 10 when a further update will be given on the number of images.

No bail application was made and Heard is remanded in custody.
