A 50-year-old Port Erin man has been convicted of driving while disqualified.
Andrew John Gregory, of Fairy Hill Close, pleaded guilty to the offence but the case was adjourned as there is likely to be a further charge brought relating to drink-driving.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how police were called to Port Erin at 8.24pm on August 3 after a report of a man driving despite being disqualified.
Despite searching and going to his home address police were unable to find Gregory.
However, at 9pm, police received further information that Gregory’s Hyundai Coupe was now parked adjacent to his home.
A witness said they had seen him driving it at 8.20pm.
Police called at his home and Gregory was said to be unsteady on his feet and slurring his words.
He produced a half empty bottle of vodka and at police headquarters failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 48 - the legal limit is 35.
When interviewed he denied driving the car saying he often sits in it to maintain the charge in the vehicle.
He said he was sitting in it at around 6pm then his partner moved the car.
Gregory admitted to drinking at around midday, then said he walked the dog at 3pm before going home and drinking more at 4pm.
The case was adjourned until August 13 while the drink-driving allegation is investigated.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions not to drive, reside at his home address, and not leave the island without court permission.
