The police have asked for help from parents and carers to help stop young people throwing things at other people and animals.

Officers said items thrown have included stones, bottles and even bags of dog poo.

A statement said: ’We’re normally pretty impressed with the majority of our young people and their behaviour and community spirit on the island.

’However, sometimes a few individuals spoil that impression and we have to ask for help from parents and carers.

’On this occasion we can’t really believe that we are asking you to speak with your young people about throwing random items at people, livestock, vehicles or property.

’Recent incidents include the throwing of stones, glass bottles, eggs and even bags of dog waste. Yes, you did read that last item correctly.

’We don’t want to be dealing with accidents and upset so if you think this kind of thing may apply in your house please put your young person right.’
