A 54-year-old man from Bride has been banned from driving and sentenced to community service for drink-driving.

John McCallion, of Ayre View, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 57 - the legal limit is 35.

He was ordered by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to do 120 hours unpaid work and banned from driving for 30 months. McCallion admitted drink-driving, a licence offence, and having no insurance.

We previously reported how, on May 22 at 8.35pm, police saw McCallion driving in Ramsey town centre. He was stopped on Bride Road due to the manner of his driving.

When asked if he had been drinking McCallion admitted having three pints. Checks found that he had no valid driving licence.

Advocate Roger Kane said: ’It was a one-off. He had only driven the car that day, he had not driven it beforehand.

’He feels he has let down not only himself, but his partner, and those in the community who look to him as a friend.

’He’s fortunate there were no collisions, there was no dangerous driving or speeding. The car went up on the kerb as he was pulling away.’

He musts pay £125 costs.
