A woman crashed her car into a tree while she was almost three times the drink-drive limit, a court has heard.

Moira Elizabeth Parish lost control of her Ford Fiesta on the A10 Bride Road in Bride. Afterwards a blood test produced a result of not less than 235. The legal limit is 80.

Parish pleaded guilty to drink-driving and will be sentenced on October 13 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to the accident at 10.05pm on June 21.

The 42-year-old was driving her car heading north when she lost control on a right hand bend and hit the tree causing the Fiesta to end up on its side.

She was removed from the car by the fire service and when police spoke to her they reported that, although she was not smelling of alcohol, she gave the impression that she was intoxicated, appearing dazed and confused.

She told police: ’I’m going to lose my job.’

Parish failed a roadside breathalyser test and was subsequently taken to police headquarters where the blood sample was taken.

When interviewed by police she said she had been out in Ramsey and had been unable to get a taxi so she decided to drive.

The court heard that Parish, of Ayre View, Bride, has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Jim Travers asked for an adjournment so that a probation report could be prepared before sentencing and for Parish to obtain character references.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Parish does not drive, resides at her home address, contacts probation, and does not leave the island without court consent.
