A woman who had two drinks at a friend’s birthday party before driving home has been banned from the wheel for drink-driving.
Jessica O’Brien, of Cullyn Path, in Douglas, produced a blood test result of 103 - the legal limit is 80.
Magistrates fined her £400 and banned her from driving for a year with an order to retake her test at the end of the ban.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that police saw O’Brien driving on Anagh Coar Road, Douglas, on March 17 at 4.28am.
O’Brien, aged 25, parked at Cullyn Avenue but reversed into a wooden fence as she did so.
When police spoke to her they described her as smelling of alcohol, slurring her words, and having glazed eyes.
She failed a roadside breathalyser test and was subsequently taken to police headquarters.
Once there, the intoxiliser machine was not working so she took a blood test instead, the result of which was 103, over the legal limit of 80.
Celebration
Defence advocate Aalish Hannan told magistrates that her client had no previous convictions.
The advocate said: ’Ms O’Brien had been out for a friend’s birthday and decided not to drink.
’She was bought two drinks during the course of the evening and went back to her vehicle to get her coat.
’She then unfortunately made the decision to drive.’
Ms Hannan went on to say that O’Brien had spent in excess of 14 hours in custody as a result of her arrest and that her employment was at risk as a result of the conviction.
Magistrates also ordered her to pay £125 prosecution costs.
O’Brien will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week.
