A drink-driver is likely to lose his job after he was fined £700 and banned from driving for two years.

Anthony John Inglis Collister, of Douglas Road, Ballasalla, admitted the offence after he failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 59. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates also ordered that the 38-year-old to retake his test at the end of the ban.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police saw Collister driving a Mitsubishi Shogun leaving the Sidings pub car park in Castletown on November 23 at 10.22pm

He was stopped and got out of the vehicle immediately admitting to police had drunk two pints of shandy.

He failed a roadside breathalyser test and was taken to police headquarters where he failed a further test with the reading of 59.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that Collister had gone to the Sidings to collect his uncle but had made the decision to stay for a couple of drinks.

Ms Cooil said that Collister was highly likely to lose his job as a result of the conviction.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £125 prosecution costs which will be paid, along with the fine, at a rate of £10 per week.
