A motorist who drove home from the pub while twice the drink-drive limit has been banned from driving.
Officers attended his address following a tip-off.
At police headquarters he failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 73. The legal limit is 35.
Cowin, aged 48, admitted drink-driving and was banned for 30 months with an order to retake his test at the end of the ban.
He was also fined £900.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how, on July 12 at 7.33pm, police received a report that Cowin had been drinking at the Crosby pub since 1.30pm and was now driving home.
Police called at his house and said that he was drunk when they spoke to him.
He failed the breathalyser test at police headquarters and gave a ’no comment’ interview.
Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said: ’Mr Cowin’s behaviour on the day was unusual and out of character for him.
’Underlying worries and stress have led to him making bad decisions.’
Ms Myerscough said that Cowin had contacted Motiv8 and had been dealing with family issues at the time of the offence.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’The short distance driven is on one hand mitigation but on the other hand it would have been easy for him to walk home.’
Cowin was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
