A drink-driver who crashed into a parked car has been fined £800 and banned for two years.

Susan Christine Neale, of Croit ny Glionney, Colby, admitted the offence after failing a breathalyser test with a reading of 66.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered the 33-year-old to retake her test at the end of her ban and pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to Glen Road in Colby on August 22 at 1am after a report of a traffic accident.

When police arrived they found that Neale had crashed her Nissan Qashqai into a parked car.

She was uninjured but was described as slurring her words, having glazed eyes, and unsteady on her feet.

At the scene she told police: ’I drove up the road stupidly.’

After being arrested and taken to police headquarters Neale produced the breathalyser reading of 66. The legal limit is 35.

The court heard that she has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Richard Halsall handed in letters of reference for his client and said that she had co-operated with police throughout the proceedings.

The advocate said: ’Mrs Neale had been out with her husband and had a meal in Castletown.

’She has had a difficult few months and hadn’t drunk in over a year.’

Mr Halsall said that the couple had been collected by a relative and were driven home after the meal but once home, Neale had got upset and had taken the car.

He continued: ’She drove around the corner, about a third of a mile. She is extremely unlikely to be before the court again.’

Mr Halsall said that Neale was arranging to pay for the damage to the parked car and asked for two months to pay any fine.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes gave Neale until November 12 to pay the fine and costs.
