A 24-year-old Douglas man has been fined £900 and banned from driving for two years for drink-driving.

Josh Ian Rosenthall, of Barrule Road, must also retake his test at the end of the ban and pay prosecution costs of £125.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how, on July 9 at 2.25am, police saw Rosenthall in a BMW on Snaefell Road in Willaston.

He was trying to manoeuvre the car but nudged a parked car as he was doing so.

When police spoke to him he was said to be smelling of alcohol and had glazed eyes.

He was asked if he had been drinking and replied: ’no’, but then admitted to consuming two rum and cokes at 7pm.

He failed a roadside breathalyser test and was taken to police headquarters.

A further test there produced a reading of 69 - the legal limit is 35.

Defending Rosenthall in court, advocate John Wright said: ’He and a friend had been drinking earlier. It was self-poured drinks.

’His friend needed a lift home and he thought after six hours and a meal, he would be okay. Obviously he was not.’
