A 21-year-old Port Erin man has admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Connah Watterson, of Marashen Crescent, also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and failing to transfer a vehicle ownership and will be sentenced on May 1.

Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court how, on December 3, police saw Watterson driving a Vauxhall Zafira in Santon.

He was said to be jerking the car towards the centre of the road and the kerb and police subsequently followed.

Officers put their blue lights on which were clearly visible but Watterson failed to stop.

He was said to have driven onto Groves Road, then Springfield Avenue and Springfield Road, before heading onto the Castletown Road.

Police were continuing to follow him as he went up Richmond Hill but halfway up the hill he was said to have performed a U-turn and went back down the hill.

By now, a police van was blocking his path and he stopped the car and was arrested.

Watterson entered a basis of plea saying that he had not seen the police car’s blue lights and that it was an unmarked car.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for an adjournment to allow time for the preparation of a probation report before sentencing.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Watterson reside at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court permission.
