A driver whose progress was so erratic she attracted the attention of a passing police patrol turned out to have no licence.

In fact, the court heard 26-year-old Ellan-Marie Greham not only had no licence but had never held one or passed a driving test.

Douglas magistrates heard Greham was spotted by police as she drove a black Honda Civic through Castletown and they were so alarmed they spun the Panda car around and followed. They found the car in Ballasalla, heading towards Cross-Fourways.

Initially Greham told them she had a licence but when no record was found on the computer system she admitted she had no licence or insurance. She said she had owned the car since Christmas but had not registered it in her name.

Defending her, Peter Taylor said she had planned to take her test but other matters, including the birth of her child and subsequent illness had intervened. She had been driving to the chemist to pick up medication for her son, he said.

She was fined £150 for no licence, £300 for no insurance, received no penalty for failing to change ownership. She pays £50 costs and was banned for three months.
