A 36-year-old motorist has admitted driving while almost three times the drink-drive limit.

Vicky Gaines took a urine test which produced a result of 292. The legal limit is 107.

She will be sentenced on October 22 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Gaines’ Volkswagen Golf was seen by a member of the public swerving in the road and mounting a kerb on Lezayre Road in Ramsey on July 1 at 3.10pm.

She was reported to police who went to her home where they found her car on the driveway at 3.43pm.

Gaines, of Auldyn Meadow Drive, Ramsey, admitted she had just driven home and said that she had drunk ’a glass’ but did not specify what she drank.

She was said to be smelling of alcohol and had glazed eyes, and she failed a breathalyser test.

At police headquarters she was unable to take a further breathalyser test as the intoxiliser machine was not working, so she gave a sample of urine.

When interviewed she answered ’no comment’ to all questions.

A toxicology report concluded that the urine reading was not less than 292.

The court heard that she has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Jim Travers asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing and time to obtain character references for his client.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
