A 25-year-old Douglas man has admitted receiving £832 worth of cannabis in the post.
Juan Jack Bashforth, of Cushag Road, pleaded guilty to production of (importing) the drug to the island as well as possession of it.
He will be sentenced on November 24 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court how police were called to the sorting office on September 26 after a report of a suspicious package addressed to Bashforth.
It was opened and found to contain 41.6 grams of green vegetable matter later confirmed as cannabis bush and valued at £832.
Police arrested Bashforth at his home and a search of the property found a further two grams of cannabis, valued at £40.
When interviewed by police Bashforth said the drug was for personal use and that he had paid £250 for it, which he said was half the price of buying it in the Isle of Man.
He said that he didn’t expect it to arrive and thought that he would be out of pocket anyway.
The court heard that he has a conviction in June 2019 for drug possession and a caution in February 2019 for similar.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Bashforth reside at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court permission.
