A 50-year-old man has admitted being involved in smuggling £1,064-worth of cannabis to the island in the post.

Richard Spencer Pearce, of Glen Road Terrace, Laxey, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of the drug to the island as well as possession of it.

He will be sentenced on March 30 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told magistrates that a package was intercepted at the Post Office sorting office on August 20 last year.

It was addressed to Pearce and when opened found to contain 53.2 grams of cannabis valued at £1,064.

A search of Pearce’s home found more cannabis valued at £3.65.

When interviewed he gave ’no comment’ responses to questions.

Mr Robinson submitted that the case was suitable for sentencing in summary court bearing in mind Pearce’s guilty plea.

Magistrates ordered that the probation report consider all options, including custody.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions to contact probation, live at his home address, and not leave the island without court permission.
