A Douglas man has been fined £100 by magistrates after admitting being found drunk in a public place.
Nicholas Derek Jones, 31, of Peel Road, was also ordered to pay £50 costs after police found him drunk, slumped against a wall in Ramsey.
Prosecutor Michael Jelski said that, on May 18 at 8am, police were called to Albert Terrace after reports of a man shouting in the street. Witnesses said Jones was staggering around with his shoes off, shouting ’Rachel, Rachel.’ Officers found him slumped against a wall putting his shoes on.
His top was covered in beer and he appeared dishevelled and was dropping his property. He was arrested for his own safety and taken to police headquarters.
Jones was bailed pending the completion of an alcohol intervention referral scheme but he failed to attend it.
Advocate Paul Rodgers said: ’ This is a man who got a first in structural engineering. This period was a blip in his life.
’Two friends had passed away and he had just split up with his girlfriend, so he turned to drink. He apologises for being a burden in this way. He has done his best to turn his life around.
