A man who fell into the sea has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly.

Lee Joseph Bargh, of Falcon Cliff Terrace, Douglas, admitted the offence and was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to Falcon Cliff Terrace on August 18 at 5.30am after a report of Bargh trying to get into the property.

The 42-year-old had been asked to leave the area earlier in the evening after a domestic incident and did so in a taxi.

However, when police arrived he had returned to the address and was soaking wet.

Bargh told police he had fallen into the sea and wanted to get in to change his clothes.

He was described as unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, and having glazed eyes.

Police told Bargh that they would get him a change of clothes but he told them that they should just arrest him.

He was subsequently arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace and put in handcuffs but tensed his arms and started swearing at police when they tried to take a car key from him.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea and said that he had spent a night in custody.

’His partner had been out and Mr Bargh went to pick her up,’ said the advocate.

’There was an argument. She believed he was speaking to another female. He left the property but then made the unwise decision to purchase alcohol.

’He had fallen into the sea and was looking for some fresh clothes.’

The court heard that Bargh has previous convictions for alcohol-related offences in 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Magistrates chair Ken Faragher told him: ’You were given the opportunity to not continue the conversation with police but you chose to do so, which has resulted in you being here.’
