In the early hours of this morning fire crews were called to a house fire in Lhonvane Close, Onchan.

While crews were dispatched they were informed by control that all persons were accounted for and outside of the home.

The first crew in attendance deployed a team in breathing apparatus and using a hose reel they quickly knocked the fire in the kitchen/ dining room area.

Crews remained in attendance for about an hour while they vented the property to clear of smoke.

A spokesman said: ’In this instance the presence of a working smoke alarm literally saved the day!! If you don’t have one take the hint, have one fitted and regularly check it works.’
