A woman who tracked her husband down in a village pub pushed him against a wall and tried to punch him.

Douglas magistrates heard Fiona Elizabeth Scholes, of New Road in Laxey accosted her husband in the Bridge Inn in the village after he failed to turn up to give her a lift home from Douglas.

James Robinson, for the prosecution, said 37-year-old Scholes was left waiting when her husband didn’t show up, and had been in O’Donnells drinking before returning home to New Road in Laxey.

He said she found her husband, Craig Scholes, playing pool in the bar and ended the game by picking up all the balls still in play and forcing them down the table pockets.

’She pushed him into the hall and up against a wall and tried to punch him in the face,’ Mr Robinson said.

Scholes then let loose a torrent of foul-mouthed invective, shouting and swearing at him. The scene continued outside with her hammering on the pub windows and screaming abuse at everyone, including the pub’s licensee.

Scholes had to be restrained until police arrived. She told police she could not remember the incident but admitted disorderly behaviour. Defending her, Peter Taylor said the incident was a culmination of many problems. He told the court Scholes was suffering from depression, stress and anxiety, added to which she had been given notice to leave her commissioners’ house. She was also taking medication.

On the day of the incident she had been into Douglas then been stood up by her partner who was supposed to give her a lift home. When she finally got home, she found herself locked out of the house.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined her £400 with £125 costs. She was also banned from entering on-licensed premises and buying or being sold alcohol for three months.
